How to Choose the Best Maternity Swimwear for Your Shape
Choosing flattering swimwear can be an arduous task, particularly for the majority of us who haven’t been lucky enough to be blessed with a model’s physique. Choosing maternity swimwear can be even more difficult – your body is changing every day and your belly is expanding to unbelievable proportions. It may be hard to believe that you can ever look good in a swim suit while you’re pregnant but really the opposite is true!
Pregnancy is a great time to take pride in your body and show off those curves. You’re not ‘fat’ – you’re pregnant! And there’s no need to hide away your body under bagging clothing when you can be having fun staying fit and cool at the pool.
Unless you know your body shape very well and know exactly what to look out for when you’re shopping for clothes and underwear, you’ll probably need a little advice when it comes to picking out a maternity swimsuit. Even pregnant models still look skinny so don’t just rely on what looks good in the catalogue – it’s important to choose a style that will accentuate your assets and hide those areas you are less proud of. Get ready to be one hot momma!
Most of the rules that apply when you’re choosing regular swimwear also apply when you’re pregnant. Just bear in mind that your body will have changed so have a good look in the mirror and assess what you see before you start shopping. Maybe you were once flat chested but are now sporting generous bosoms? The styles that suited you before probably won’t look quite so good now so you’ll have to rethink a little.
Halter style tops and molded cups look great on women with a fuller chest. You can find these styles in maternity tankinis, bikinis and one piece swimsuits. If your chest doesn’t need so much support and you’d like to show off your chest and shoulders, you’ll probably look great in a strapless bikini top. If your chest area has stayed small during your pregnancy you can enhance it with a padded top to balance out your body a little.
If your bottom is a little larger than you’d like, go for generously cut bottoms and avoid detailing like side ties which can widen already ample hips. Boy cut bottoms can be good for covering up large hips but beware if you also have large thighs – they will make them look bigger. Choosing a dark color for your bottom half will help to slim you and keep the attention on your top half.
When it comes to showing your tummy, it’s down to preference. If you have stretch marks you’d like to cover up or just aren’t comfortable showing your belly off, a one piece suit or a maternity tankini is a great choice. These will cover up your bump and also provide support. On the other hand, pregnant bellies look really cute in maternity bikinis and help to show that you really are pregnant; you’ve not just put on a little weight!
There really is a huge range of styles out there for pregnant women so there’s definitely something for everyone. Just bear these simple points in mind and you’ll be well on the way to finding your perfect maternity swimsuit.
